Day 2 | Bucharest and its treasures
In the morning, meeting with your local guide and start sightseeing tour, including the most interesting sites in Bucharest, like The Parliament Palace, also known as The People’s House, the second largest building in the world, after Pentagon, The Revolution Square, The Opera Square, Victoria Ave and the Triumphal Arch. Visit the Parliament Palace, former house of Ceausescu (built between 1984 and 1989) which is impressive at first only by figures : 270 meters by 240, 86 meters high, 1100 pieces and 12 floors. Ceausescu wiped a big portion of the surrounding district in order to build this palace. It’s without a doubt that the interior surprises more than the outside : the Transylvanian marble that covers kms of walls, each and every piece is adorned. Big stairways, sophisticated floors and alive colours make the palace a perfect place for shooting a movie. The ceiling is at 8 meters high ; everything is at double the size from any palace. The effective surface is actually a small part in comparison to the built surface. Visit Village Museum, one of the biggest open air museums in Europe. Pleasing a virtually central location in Bucharest, the museum is definitely an oasis of tranquility, a perfect place that reflects rural life since immemorial times. Besides the houses, the heritage museum is completed by churches, by annexes and mills, to offer visitors a thorough picture of the life of the Romanian traditional villages. Overnight in Bucharest.
Day 3 | A chance to discover the Royal Way
Optional trip to Sinaia and Bran or free time on your own in Bucharest. Trip to Sinaia and Bran: We set off from Bucharest and head to Sinaia following the scenic Prahova Valley – arrival in Sinaia, called “Pearl of the Carpathians” due to the beauty of its natural setting and the elegance of its architecture – visit the Peles Castle, former summer residence of the Romanian Royal family and emblematic of the Romanian royalty. Drive on to Bran to visit the famous medieval castle built as a fortress – The “Dracula’s” Castle – for the citizens of Brasov with view to defence the city. Prince Vlad used the Castle as a general headquarters during his incursions in Transylvania . For many years, it has been an interesting medieval art museum. Surrounded by an aura of mystery and legend and perched high atop a 200-foot-high rock, Bran Castle owes its fame to its imposing towers and turrets as well as to the myth created around Bram Stocker’s Dracula. Built on the site of a Teutonic Knights stronghold dating from 1212, the castle was first documented in an act issued by Louis I of Hungary on November 19, 1377, giving the Saxons of Kronstadt (Brasov) the privilege to build the Citadel. Although Stoker never visited Transylvania, the Irish author relied on research and his vivid imagination to create the dark and intimidating stomping ground of Count Dracula, leading to persistent myths that it was once the home of Vlad Tepes, ruler of Walachia. While the association with Dracula is sketchy at best, the castle continues to hold a strong attraction for all fans of the Count. Drive back to Bucharest.
