We will discover the remarkable Episcopal church (1512-1517) whose architecture reflects a certain oriental influence. Together with the royal church, it plays a very important role for the Romanian national feeling. Departure for SIBIU, formerly Hermannstadt, a fortified medieval town, the third of the three great Saxon towns resulting from the seven Saxon citadels, the Siebenburgen. Walk through the pretty town of Sibiu. Dinner and accommodation
Day 4 | Sibiu – Hunedoara – Sibiel – Sibiu
Drive to Hunedoara and visit the Corvin Castle, the largest castle in Romania. It is located in Hunedoara, in the Land of Hațeg, in the southwest of Transylvania. The first fortification built on the current site of the Chateau des Corvin dates from the end of the 14th century or the beginning of the 15th century. Oriented along the north-south axis, this fortification with two-meter thick walls had an ellipsoidal shape. From 1440, Iancu de Hunedoara, the owner, began work to transform this fortification. The new castle, built in Gothic style, favored the military function of the old fortification, while receiving some of the characteristics of a pleasure castle. Then drive to Sibiel, one of the most authentic villages in Transylvania. Horse-drawn carriage ride in Sibiel, to discover the rural life and to discover the unique beauties of this village. Homemade dinner. Return to Sibiu. Overnight in Sibiu
Day 5 | Sibiu – Biertan – Sighisoara
Leaving Sibiu, we will admire typical small villages along the way. Discover the splendid countryside of Transylvania with idyllic villages, friendly people and their traditions and lifestyle intact. Stop en route and visit the fortified church of Biertan (UNESCO). A few kilometers away, SIGHISOARA, an old medieval Saxon town, surrounded by a 900 m long wall with its turrets and nestled in a marvelous site. According to legend, Prince Vlad Tepes or Dracula was born here. Walking tour in the citadel and visit of La Maison des Guildes. The history of this exciting city in Transylvania begins in the 12th century when the King of Hungary invited Saxon merchants to settle in the region. Sighi?oara quickly became a place of military and commercial value in the Holy Roman Empire, and the city’s flourishing guilds built a hilltop citadel. Then visit the birthplace of Vlad Dracul, father of Vlad Tepe?, known as Vlad the Impaler, who inspired the famous character of Dracula in Bram Stoker. Dinner and overnight in Sighisoara.
Day 6 | Sighisoara – Viscri – Bran – Brasov
Continuation of the trip to Viscri (Deutschweisskirch), the well-hidden pearl of Transylvania. Visit of the fortress which still houses a church built in the 12th century. The architectural style of the houses encourages the opinion of historians that the founders were the Teutonic Knights – since the citadel has a square shape and is surrounded by defensive towers. During his travels in Transylvania, King Charles, in love with Transylvania, always stops at Viscri. He has also bought and fitted out an old Saxon house in Viscri where he receives his guests of honor. Departure to Bran and visit of the medieval fortified castle of Bran. Built in 1377 by the Teutonic Knights, it was inhabited in the 15th century by Prince Vlad Tepes. Nowadays, he is associated, in the collective memory, with Vlad the Impaler and the character of Dracula that he partly inspired. Road to Brasov. Discovery of the city. The Church of Saint Nicholas which is located in the old quarter of Schei was built by the Romanians of Brasov at the beginning of the 13th century on the site of another wooden church which existed here from the first millennium of the era. Christian. It is very particular from the point of view of architecture, built in the Gothic style on the outside and Byzantine on the inside. Dinner and overnight in Brasov.
Day 7 | Brasov – Zarnesti – Sinaia – Brasov
Drive to Zarnesti and visit the Bear Sanctuary. Indeed, you should know that Romania is the most populated country in Europe with brown bears. The bear reserve was founded in 2005 and it is the first reserve of its kind in Romania. In the reserve of 69 hectares live more than 70 brown bears. Through the Prahova valley, we reach SINAIA, the pearl of the Carpathians. It spreads over the Bucegi Mountains between 800 and 930 m above sea level. Sinaia Convent was founded in 1695 by a nobleman who fell in love with St. Catherine’s Monastery in the Sinai desert. During the 19th century, the royal family chose this place as a vacation spot. The wealthy bourgeoisie followed the royal example. Next to the convent, we will visit the castle of Peles, former summer residence, dear to the royal family in the 19th century: we will have the opportunity, through some of its 160 rooms, to discover the numerous collections of any kind. Return to Brasov. Dinner and overnight in Brasov.
