We continue our tour with a stop to Politehnica University (the setting for Nancy Reagan Highschool) and to stop to Casa Monteoru (the setting for the interiors of Nevermore Academy). Be amazed by this Belle Epoque monument that will remind you of the OId Paris. In the afternoon, visit the Village Museum, one of the largest open air museums in Europe and enjoy a walking tour in the old city centre. Overnight in Bucharest.
Day 3 | Bucharest – Balteni – Sinaia – Busteni – Brasov
Drive towards Sinaia, named the Pearl of the Carpathians. On the way, stop in the village of Balteni, to see Olga Greceanu Mansion (the setting of Garret Gates’ house in the series). Visit Peles Castle, the former summer residence of the Romania Royal family. Stop and admire Sinaia Royal station, the setting for Burlington train station in the series. We continue to Busteni to visit the amazing Cantacuzino Palace, the setting for Nevermore Academy. Decorated with expensive and rare materials, the castle still conserves the sculpted oak doors, the stained glass windows brought from Venice, the fireplaces decorated with mosaic and gold foils, and partially some of the wall paintings done by Viennese artists. So, the perfect fit for the show. Arrival in Brasov. Walking tour in Brasov to admire the unique baroque buildings. Fringed by the peaks of the Southern Carpathian Mountains and resplendent with gothic, baroque and renaissance architecture, as well as a wealth of historical attractions, Brasov is one of the most visited places in Romania. Founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211 on an ancient Dacian site and settled by the Saxons as one of the seven walled citadels, Brasov exudes a distinct medieval ambiance and has been used as backdrop in many recent period films. Overnight in Brasov.
Day 4 | Brasov – Bran – Sighisoara – Sibiu
Drive to Bran, to visit the famous medieval castle built as a fortress – The “Dracula’s” Castle – for the citizens of Brasov with view to defence the city. Prince Vlad used the Castle as a general headquarters during his incursions in Transylvania . For many years, it has been an interesting medieval art museum. Surrounded by an aura of mystery and legend and perched high atop a 200-foot-high rock, Bran Castle was built on the site of a Teutonic Knights stronghold dating from 1212 and it was first documented in an act issued by Louis I of Hungary on November 19, 1377, giving the Saxons of Kronstadt (Brasov) the privilege to build the Citadel. Next we discover Sighisoara, one of the best preserved medieval citadel in Europe and one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Sighisoara is the only still inhabited medieval fortress on the continent. It is also the birthplace of Vlad Dracula, also known as Vlad Tepes, ruler of the province of Walachia from 1456 to 1462. He is the one who inspired the Bram Stoker`s fictional creation, Count Dracula. Enjoy a guided walk in the beautiful Old Town. Overnight in Sibiu.
Day 5 | Sibiu – Hunedoara – Sibiu
Drive to Hunedoara and visit Corvin Castle, the largest castle in all East Europe and the only Gothic castle entirely preserved in Romania. Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles meet here to create a unique 14th century castle. This picturesque medieval castle stands grand with tall walls and towers next to a river over which a long entrance bridge was built to protect it from invaders. As legend has it Vlad Țepeș (the main character who inspired the story of Dracula) was imprisoned here for 7 years before he married the daughter of the castle owner and took back his reign of Wallachia. The castle also boasts the legend of the raven that held the golden ring in its beak and of the well that took 15 years to dig by Turkish prisoners. Guided walking tour of the medieval town (the Main Square, the Evangelical Church, the Liars’ Bridge etc.). Sibiu – once one of the easternmost cities of the glittering Hapsburg Empire was European Cultural Capital in 2007. Nine centuries of cultural treasures await discovery. Overnight in Sibiu.
